Veterans of War

Long before Tom Brokaw coined the term, "The Greatest Generation," for men and women who fought in World War II, we all had a sense of their accomplishments.

They were raised in the dust of the Great Depression, came of age on the battlefields of the war that was to end all wars and then returned to build the most productive nation in the history of the world.

This book is a compilation of some of their stories. Chuck Martin, the Times Recorder's resident historian, spent hundreds of hours interviewing Zanesville area men and women who served their nation in the great struggle against German, Italy and Japan.

Each story is a tiny thread in the colossal tapestry that is World War II. Taken individually, they are fascinating insights in the personal struggles of our soldiers, sailors and airmen.

Collectively, they are an inspiration, a testimony to the courage and commitment it took to save the world from tyranny.

The Times Recorder is proud to offer to its readers this wonderful collection of stories, "Veterans of War."
