Leavenworth: A Pictorial History
Leavenworth was hard hit in World War I when nearly 100 young men were called into service. Farms failed to earn a substantial profit, key facilities were moved out of town, and in the 1927 the sawmill was closed. When The Great Depression set in, the Trinity mine closed, leaving more people out of work, and in the 1940s more men were called away for military service.
By the 1960s, with a population seriously divided by a school site issue, it was time for a change. Through Project LIFE (Leavenworth Improvement For Everyone) and the work of many individuals, Leavenworth was able to accomplish even more than hoped for and become the town as you see it today.
ReliveĀ the storied history through stunning photography. Created in celebration of The Leavenworth Echo's 100th anniversary, "Leavenworth: A Pictorial History" features historic photos from the Upper Valley Museum at Leavenworth and the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center.
